Alta Olena York, 94, of Kilgore, passed away on August 11, 2017 at a local nursing home. She was born October 19, 1922 in Wichita Falls, Texas to Thomas Eugene and Mabel Gatlin Guest. Alta grew up in Wichita Falls and graduated from Lubbock High School. She met and married William Edward York Sr. and they were married September 12, 1942 in Wichita Falls after an extended engagement. She was a homemaker, a devoted mother and loving grandmother. Alta Olena York, 94, of Kilgore, passed away on August 11, 2017 at a local nursing home. She was born October 19, 1922 in Wichita Falls, Texas to Thomas Eugene and Mabel Gatlin Guest. Alta grew up in Wichita Falls and graduated from Lubbock High School. She met and married William Edward York Sr. and they were married September 12, 1942 in Wichita Falls after an extended engagement. She was a homemaker, a devoted mother and loving grandmother. She loved to garden, sew and going to church. While being a member of Liberty City Assembly of God, she was not one just to sit and watch things happen; she was involved as the church secretary for many years, as well as a Sunday school teacher. If there was a need in the church, she was willing to step in.
She is survived by her daughter: Patricia Cherry and her husband Glen of Kilgore; son: Bill York and his wife Rita of Diana; daughter: Ruth Smith and her husband Curtis of Kilgore; seven grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren and three great, great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband and her sister: Imogene Guest.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 13, 2017 at Truce Cemetery outside of Jacksboro, TX, with Roger Willis officiating. Services are held under the direction of Lakeview Funeral Home, Longview, TX. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Gideon's Bible or Liberty City Assembly of God.
